Helijet is an air travel company that offers helicopter flights between Victoria and both downtown Vancouver and Vancouver International Airport in Richmond.

Helijet and the Victoria Heliport

The Victoria Heliport is a small helicopter terminal located at Ogden Point at 79 Dallas Road beside the cruise ship docks. The heliport is about a five-minute drive from the city’s downtown core and Inner Harbour.

Helijet serves the cities of Victoria and Nanaimo on Vancouver Island as well as both Richmond and Vancouver in the Lower Mainland. It also offers flights to the northern communities of Prince Rupert and Haida Gwaii on BC’s West Coast.

The helicopter service began in 1986 with just a single chopper that flew between Vancouver and Victoria eight times a day. Helijet now has 15 helicopters and cover many more areas.

As of December 2023, Helijet has four main scheduled flight paths. They are between Vancouver Harbour and Victoria Harbour; Victoria Harbour and Vancouver Harbour; Vancouver Harbour and Nanaimo Harbour; and Nanaimo Harbour and Vancouver Harbour. Flights from those locations to other places on the coast of BC are also available, but must be booked as charter flights. Each flight carries two to 12 passengers.

Helijet Cost

Ticket cost for Helijet flights vary depending on the season and what time of the week you’re flying. Either way, it’s not cheap: expect to spend between $263 and $443 a ticket when flying from Victoria to Vancouver (at least as of December 2023).

In 2015, Helijet introduced the Kids Fly Free program, where children ages 12 years and under flew for free when accompanied by a full-paying adult (infants under 24 months free). Additional children cost $99 each.

Unfortunately, in April 2021 Helijet temporarily suspended this program. The company’s website does say that children accompanying adults can receive a discounted fare, but not exactly what that amount is. Make sure to call Helijet’s reservation number to ask about this if you have young children.
