Victoria’s Huntingdon Hotel and Pendray Inn & Teahouse

These three-star hotels are on the same property and operate in partnership with each other. Huntingdon Hotel and Suites (formerly known as Huntingdon Manor) is the larger of the two with 114 rooms. Pendray Inn & Tea House is a little cozier with just 10 rooms.

Both hotels are designed in an older, British style. Huntingdon Hotel features pleasant outdoor walkways with gardens and ponds to enjoy. Pendray Inn was originally built in the 19th century as an upper-class family home and has since been converted into a hotel. The building is both charming and beautiful.

Guests at both properties are encouraged to enjoy afternoon tea at the Pendray Tea House. Doing so is an elegant way to relax and spoil yourself with tasty treats and tea. It’s a most Victoria thing to do!

Location and Cost

The two hotels are next to each other, but do have different streets in their addresses. Huntingdon Hotel is at 330 Quebec Street while Pendray Inn is at 309 Belleville Street.

The buildings are just a couple blocks from Victoria’s Inner Harbour. They are conveniently between just a 5 and 10-minute walk from the Coho Ferry Terminal, BC Legislative Buildings, Tourist Information Centre, and Government Street.

The price to stay at one of the hotels depends both on the time of year and how far in advance the booking is made.

During the winter the cost for one of the entry-level rooms at the Huntingdon Hotel can be as low as $150 per night. During the peak of summer that can rise to over $300. There are a variety of options for fancier rooms including ones with private balconies, full kitchens, upstairs lofts and multiple bedrooms.

There are a smaller number of rooms available at Pendray Inn, all of which are uniquely designed and different from each other. Prices for each room are a little more uniform than at Huntingdon, ranging from around $190 to $400 depending on the time of year as of the summer of 2024.

Given the limited occupancy at Pendray, it’s recommended to book your stay well in advance (at least during peak travel times).

While the Pendray Tea House grabs the headlines for its charming character, Huntingdon Hotel offers a complimentary breakfast buffet at Hunter’s Restaurant every morning. There’s also Santiago’s Cafe which is an independently-operated Mexican diner located next to the hotel on the same property.

Also next door to the hotel is Free Spirit Botanicals, a spa that offers handmade oils and other skincare products. They give massages, facials and other relaxing treatments. Pendray Inn & Tea House

The Pendray Tea House serves both breakfast and afternoon tea. As of the last time we checked, breakfast is available from 7:00 am to 10:00 am. Tea is served from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm Fridays to Sundays, and from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm the rest of the week.

Afternoon tea is ordered in a set package, and not a la carte. Each order comes with a variety of scones and pastries, a collection of savoury items like cheeses, salad and smoked salmon, and of course the tea. There are two different options for the main menu (with the only difference being some of the savoury snacks). There is also a vegan version and a kids version.

Pendray Inn also offers rental options for weddings, Christmas parties and other events. They include catering provided by the hotel and access to both indoor and outdoor spaces.

Environmental Commitment

Huntingdon Hotel & Suites and Pendray Inn are environmentally-responsible hotels. They have been an EcoFund Verified Business since 2021. As a result, the hotels charge a $2.50 EcoFee that supports carbon reduction projects to offset the carbon footprint of your stay. $0.25 of the fee also benefits the Indigenous Tourism Destination Fund (ITDF) which invests in the sustainable development of Indigenous-led tourism and cultural heritage in Canada.

In addition to the above, the hotels are committed to reducing their environmental impact through a number of other eco-friendly practices and social policies. The hotels hold Biosphere, 4 Green Key, and BC Green Business certifications. Some of their initiatives include composting, minimizing single-use packaging, reducing food waste, recycling and sourcing locally.

The hotel has also partnered with the James Bay Neighbourhood Association to create the Dr. Bonnie Henry Community Garden on the hotel’s grounds which now include 25 plots for people in the neighbourhood. The hotels also encourage guests to conserve energy and water use, and to use the hotel’s recycling and composting facilities.
