Raymond James Father’s Day Walk/Run in Victoria

Victoria Father's Day Walk and Run

An annual community fundraiser on Father’s Day, the Raymond James Walk/Run raises money to support those affected by prostate cancer.

The event is related to the Vancouver Island Westcoast Motorcycle Ride to Live which takes place in September and benefits the same organization, the Island Prostate Centre. The event in June involves walking and running. The one in the fall involves touring around on motorbikes. Both are fundraising events that raise money and spread awareness about prostate cancer.

Victoria’s Raymond James Father’s Day Walk/Run for Prostate Cancer

Held on Father’s Day in Victoria each year in June, this event has been run by the Island Prostate Centre for over 20 years. The event and organization help in the fight against prostate cancer which is the most common form of cancer for adult males in BC. Over 10% of men in Canada are diagnosed with prostate cancer at some point in their lives!

The Victoria Father’s Day Walk/Run helps raise funds for treatment and support for those with the disease. 100% of the money raised goes to the cause. What’s more? The event’s sponsor, Raymond James Financial, matches all donations up to a total of $15,000.

This is not a marathon-length course. The event has just a 3 km and a 5 km race. Whether you run the entire distance, walk the whole way or do a mix of both, what’s important is supporting the cause, collecting donations and having a fun time.

In 2022 the Father’s Day Walk/Run takes place on June 19th which is the Father’s Day Sunday.

Location and Registration

The fundraiser happens at Vancouver Island Technology Park which is about 10 km north of downtown Victoria. The park is next to the Camosun College Interurban campus. Its address is 4464 Markham Street in Victoria.

There is a registration fee of $35 to take part in the event. That’s for everyone ages 13 years and older. Those younger than that are free. You can register as an individual or as part of a team. There doesn’t appear to be too much of a difference either way (although running and competing as a team can be extra fun).

On top of that standard fee you can donate as much as you’d like to help support the cause. Donations remain open until the end of July. The more dollars collected, the more Island Prostate Centre and the people it helps will benefit!

The Father’s Day Event in 2022

The opening ceremonies for the races begin at 9:45 am on June 19th in 2022. The event ends at around noon after some closing ceremonies, so it’s not an all-day thing. After the run there is still lots of time for dads to have fun with their families.

There are two courses available for participants. There is a 5 km course and a 3 km course. Neither of them is super competitive, and there’s not a big podium at the end. Whether you run or walk, what’s important is getting out there and being part of the race!

In 2021, the first 150 people who registered received a Rocky Mountain Chocolate medal. As well, there was a 50/50 draw that anyone could participate in. Whether either of these offers happens again in 2022 is to be confirmed.

Other Information

A similar event to the Father’s Day Run/Walk is the Westcoast Motorcycle Ride to Live. This other event takes place in September and it too raises funds for the Island Prostate Centre. The event in the fall involves a motorcycle ride up island as well as a post-ride after party with food and music.
