Ballet Victoria is a dance company that produces multiple ballets per year on Vancouver Island. Shows in 2023 included Amadeus and Peter Pan.

Victoria’s Ballet Victoria Dance Company

Ballet Victoria is a boutique dance company that specializes in ballet. The company has been around since 2002. The organization has a mission to promote dance talent, values and education to the public. Ballet Victoria is a team of 12 dancers led by choreographer and Executive Director Paul Destrooper.

The dance company brings high-quality performances to local audiences. It sometimes even tours North America. In total, the company has put together nearly 100 works over the years. There are usually four different productions to enjoy each year. Ballet Victoria’s shows are fascinating, dramatic and sometimes humorous. In addition to all of its performances, the company also offers dance classes for adults.

Ballet Victoria is located at 643 Broughton Street in Victoria. That’s where the classes take place. The shows, however, do not. Continue reading below for more information about where and when you can see the performances.

2023 Ballet Victoria Shows

Ballet Victoria’s 2022 to 2023 season started in October and concluded in May.

Broadway On Pointe performances happened in October of 2022 and The Gift of the Nutcracker shows ran in December. There were two productions happening in the first half of 2023 as well. Amadeus shows happened in March and the Peter Pan production ran in May. Details about these two shows are below.

Amadeus Ballet

Amadeus is a ballet about the composer of the same name. Inspired by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, this Ballet Victoria production was set to recognizable music and featured spectacular dancing. The show included various interpretations of Mozart’s pieces, ranging from genres of rock to hip-hop.

All Amadeus performances were held at the Royal Theatre. The venue is located at 805 Broughton Street, so just a couple of blocks away from the Ballet Victoria building. Adult tickets started at $30 per person.

Show dates and times in 2023 were as follows:

Friday, March 17th – 7:30 pm
Saturday, March 18th – 7:30 pm
Sunday, March 19th – 2:00 pm

Peter Pan Ballet

Ballet Victoria’s Peter Pan production was a modern twist on the classic story. The Darlings travel to Neverland and come across mermaids, pirates and all sorts of other characters.

The Peter Pan shows took place at the Royal Theatre (at 805 Broughton Street) on the following dates in 2023:

Thursday, May 4th – 7:30 pm
Friday, May 5th – 7:30 pm

Dance Classes

Ballet Victoria also offers dance classes for adults. As of early 2023, there are three different ballet classes to choose from. One is for beginners, another is for intermediates and the third is open to all levels.

As of early 2023, Beginner Ballet for Adults runs on Tuesdays while Intermediate Ballet for Adults is on Thursdays. Both classes run from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm. Meanwhile, Open Ballet for Adults happens from 9:30 am to 11:00 am on Fridays.

Normal rates for each class are $20. If you get a pack of 10 tickets, though, you can save about 25%.
